Seasoned Veteran Joins in the Fight to End the Opioid Epidemic

Dr. David Herrick Announces Partnership with Sure Med Compliance to Serve as Medical Director

Fairhope, AL, August 13, 2018 -- With nearly 64,000 deaths in 2016 from unintentional drug overdose, the majority stemming from prescribed opioids, a key alliance has formed to help fight the battle of overprescribing. Dr. David Herrick of Montgomery, Alabama has been a long-time, outspoken advocate for both patients and physicians caught in the crosshairs of the deadliest epidemic our country has faced. As a physician who specializes in chronic pain management, Dr. Herrick has witnessed first-hand how opioids, if prescribed and taken responsibly, can improve a patient’s quality of life. As a former member of the Alabama Board of Medical Examiners, he has also seen the negative impact opioids can have. In fact, when it comes to the complexities and nuances of this epidemic, there is possibly no one more qualified to help solve this puzzle that has vexed even the most determined politicians and regulators.

This week Dr. Herrick announced his partnership with Sure Med Compliance, an organization that educates physicians on responsible opioid prescribing and equips them with tools to verify which patients are suitable for chronic opioid therapy and which have significant risk factors. Herrick will be serving as the Medical Director for Sure Med Compliance, a position he says will allow him to have a broader impact on a population he cares deeply about, patients with chronic pain. “The Sure Med Compliance system gives me the confidence to make very important opioid treatment decisions by giving me real, easily accessible data. It also helps me to monitor the effects of my treatment over time. This position with Sure Med Compliance will give me an opportunity to not only share the merits of this platform with key stakeholders but ultimately, to help improve the quality of pain management care all over the country.”

John Bowman, CEO of Sure Med Compliance believes that Dr. Herrick will play a big role in shaping the future of the company. “When you bring someone with Dr. Herrick’s pedigree to the table, you get to tackle bigger challenges and create better products. We fully expect his input to influence the overall strategy of the company and to make us all better at what we do.”
